It gives artists more time to work wet-on-wet, create smooth color transitions, and achieve delicate sfumato effects. It is suitable for anyone working with water-based acrylics and does not change the paint’s shade or gloss after drying.

Product details

Brand: MAIMERI

Type: Acrylic retarder (drying time extender)

Form: Opalescent gel

Volume: 75 ml

Compatibility: All water-based acrylics (Maimeri Acrilico, Polycolor, and other brands)

Country of origin: Italy (tradition since 1923)

Use and application

Mix the retarder directly into the paint on a palette at 10–15% of its volume, or apply it in a thin layer to the surface before painting. It slows water evaporation and gives you more time to mix paints. Do not exceed a 15% dose to avoid a sticky surface or an unstable layer.

Frequently asked questions

Does the retarder change the paint’s final shade or gloss? No, it does not change the shade or gloss after drying.

What happens if I use more than 15% retarder? Using more than 15% may cause a sticky surface or an unstable paint film.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/8010/2488/files/maimeri-acrylic-paint-retarder-75-ml-ie-maim5816640-1.jpg?v=1791239767
