Paints for ceramics and porcelain are either oven-baked in a regular oven, KREUL at 160 °C for 90 minutes and Pebeo Porcelaine 150 at 150 °C for 35 minutes, after which they can withstand dishwasher washing, or left to air-dry, like Darwi Armerina and Pebeo Ceramic. According to the manufacturers, painted surfaces must not come into contact with food or drinks. You don’t need a ceramic kiln or glazes for kiln firing.
Paints for ceramics are made for finished glazed ceramics and porcelain, such as mugs, plates, vases, and flowerpots. The choice depends on whether you want to bake the item in a kitchen oven for a more durable decoration or let it air-dry.

How to Fire Ceramic Paint in the Oven
Wash the mug or plate and degrease it with alcohol. After painting, let the paint dry: at least 4 hours for KREUL, 24 hours for Pebeo Porcelaine 150. Place the item in a cold oven, turn it on, and fire: KREUL at 160 °C for 90 minutes, Pebeo Porcelaine 150 at 150 °C for 35 minutes. Let it cool in the oven. Before the design is fired, you can still wash off mistakes with water. After firing, KREUL is dishwasher-safe on a gentle cycle at 40 to 45 °C.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you drink from a painted mug?
No. All manufacturers of the glass paints and porcelain paints we sell state that painted surfaces must not come into direct contact with food or drinks. So paint the outside of a glass or mug, away from the rim that touches your mouth. After firing in the oven, the design can be washed according to the manufacturer's instructions. KREUL is dishwasher-safe on a gentle cycle at 40 to 45 °C.
Ceramic Paints: Fired or No-Bake?
If you will wash the item often, choose paints that are fired in the oven (KREUL, Pebeo Porcelaine 150). After firing, they are dishwasher-safe. No-bake paints, such as Darwi Armerina, are simpler to use. Armerina can go in the dishwasher 48 hours after drying, while Pebeo Ceramic should only be washed gently.
Do I need a ceramic kiln?
No. All ceramic and porcelain paints in our range are fired in a regular kitchen oven or air-dried. We do not carry glazes for firing in a ceramic kiln. Pentart Liquid Glaze is a protective gloss varnish that creates a glaze effect without a kiln.
Are porcelain paints suitable for kids?
The manufacturer recommends the Pebeo Porcelaine 150 set for ages 14 and up. Always have an adult handle oven baking.
How do I fix a mistake when painting porcelain?
Before firing the design, wash off KREUL paint with water or wipe it away with a cotton swab. After firing, it is permanent.
