Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can I use Posca markers on?

Posca markers are extremely versatile and work on almost any surface. Use them to decorate paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, ceramics, stone, metal, or plastic. For lasting results on smooth materials such as glass or metal, we recommend sealing the finished artwork with varnish to protect it from rubbing and outdoor exposure.

How do I properly activate a new Posca marker before its first use?

Before opening the marker for the first time, shake it thoroughly to mix the pigment with the ball inside. Then gently press the tip against clean paper several times until it becomes saturated with color. If the tip dries out, repeat the process. If the tip gets stained with another color, simply remove it, rinse it with water, or replace it with a new one, a major advantage over Sakura markers.

Are Posca markers permanent or can they be erased?

Posca contains water-based pigment ink that becomes permanent on porous surfaces such as wood or paper once dry. On smooth, nonporous materials, such as glass or a mirror, you can wipe it off with a damp cloth. To make your drawing on glass permanent, apply a suitable fixing spray after it dries.

What is the difference between Posca markers and Sakura Pigma Micron pens?

Posca markers are opaque acrylic markers with broader tips, designed for coloring and painting on various materials. Sakura Pigma Micron pens are professional fine-line pens with archival ink. Sakura is ideal for precise technical drawing, sketching, and writing on paper. Its ink does not bleed or show through most paper surfaces.

Can I mix Posca colors directly on paper?

Yes, while the paint layer is still wet, you can mix shades or create smooth gradients. To lighten the paint or create a watercolor effect, simply use a damp brush. Once the first layer is dry, you can safely apply additional colors. Posca has excellent coverage, so light shades can easily cover dark ones.
