In brief

Kids, schoolchildren, and beginners can use a less expensive canvas that stands up to experimentation: ECO stretched canvas made from 100% cotton, second-quality canvas, or canvas board. There’s a mini easel with canvas for the youngest artists. Stretched canvases are gesso-primed and ready for painting with acrylic paints.

What canvas should you buy for a child to paint on?

For the youngest artists: mini easel with stretched canvas – a small canvas made from 100% cotton (230 g/m²) on a wooden easel. The child can display the finished painting on a table or give it as a gift.

For schoolchildren and beginners: ECO stretched canvas made from 100% unbleached cotton, with a weight of 305 g/m². It has the same double gesso priming as standard canvases, a lighter frame, and a lower price. We make the frames and stretch the canvas in our own workshop.

For lots of practice: second-quality stretched canvas – 370 g/m² cotton with minor cosmetic flaws at a significantly lower price.

For art class and sketches: canvas board – lightweight, sturdy, and less expensive than stretched canvas.

For neon and light colors: black ECO stretched canvas (305 g/m²).

Creative set: set for creating a relief abstract painting – modeling paste, ECO canvas measuring 20 × 30 cm, and a notched spatula.

What paints should kids use on canvas?

Acrylic paints are the most practical choice for kids painting on gesso-primed canvas. They dry quickly, and while they’re wet, you can wash them off with water. Frequently asked questions

What canvas is suitable for kids?

For kids and beginners, ECO stretched canvas made from 100% cotton (305 g/m²) or canvas board is enough. A mini easel with canvas is suitable for the youngest artists, and kids can finish the painting quickly.

What size canvas is suitable for a child?

Smaller formats, such as 20 × 20 or 20 × 30 cm. Kids can finish the painting before they lose interest, and smaller canvases are less expensive, too.

What paints can kids use on canvas?

Acrylic paints are the most practical choice: they adhere well to gesso-primed canvas, dry quickly, and can be washed off with water while still wet. Older kids can also try tempera paints.

Is inexpensive ECO canvas worse than more expensive canvas?

ECO canvas has the same double gesso priming as standard stretched canvases. It differs in its lower cotton weight (305 g/m²) and lighter frame, which make it less expensive. It’s more than enough for learning and practice.
