Frequently Asked Questions
What types of glue work best for decoupage?
For this technique, you need special decoupage glue that also acts as a varnish. We recommend Rosa, which provides a smooth, bubble-free finish. If you’re working with fabric, use special fabric glue. Always apply a thin layer from the center of the motif toward the edges so the paper doesn’t wrinkle and adheres well to the surface.
How do I use rice paper when decorating?
Rice paper is very popular for decoupage because it’s stronger than a napkin and doesn’t tear as easily. Simply place it on the item you’re decorating and apply glue over the paper with a flat synthetic brush. DP Craft offers beautiful designs that become almost transparent once the glue is applied and blend seamlessly into the surface, creating a painted effect.
How can I create an attractive cracked finish on my project?
For an antique look, use a two-component crackle varnish. The first component creates the cracks, and the second highlights them, for example, with oil paint or patina. ARTMiE® products let you control the size of the cracks based on the thickness of the applied layer. It’s an ideal way to give ordinary wooden boxes or picture frames a unique vintage look.
Which brush is best for applying glue and varnish?
For decoupage, choose a flat synthetic brush with soft bristles. Synthetic bristles stand up to glue and don’t leave streaks on the surface. We recommend ARTMiE®, which offers brushes with ideal flexibility. They help you apply glue evenly under thin napkin paper without damaging or tearing it as you smooth it out.
What should I do if bubbles form on my napkin?
Bubbles form when the layer of glue is too thick or applied too quickly. Try applying a thin layer of glue to the surface, place the napkin on top, and carefully smooth it from the center toward the edges with a dry, soft brush. If a bubble does appear, gently pierce it with a pin and press out the air. DP Craft napkins are easier to work with if you cut them out carefully before applying them.
