FABER-CASTELL – Since 1761, the World’s Oldest Pencil Manufacturer
Faber-Castell is one of the oldest industrial companies in the world. It was founded in 1761 by cabinetmaker Kaspar Faber in Stein near Nuremberg. For eight generations, this family-owned company has set standards in writing and drawing supplies.
History of the Faber-Castell Brand
Under the leadership of Lothar von Faber, the brand expanded to New York (1849), London (1851), and Paris (1855) in the 19th century. The name Faber-Castell was created in 1898 when heiress Ottilie von Faber married Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen. Today, the company employs 6,500 people, has 14 factories around the world, and sells in more than 120 countries.
