Making beeswax candles step by step
- Warm the beeswax sheet, for example with a hairdryer, so that it softens.
- You can trim the edges or decorate the sheet with patterns – once rolled, it takes on an interesting shape.
- Place a piece of wick along the edge of the sheet (the pack contains 80 cm, so cut what you need; leave about 1 cm sticking out at the top) and roll the sheet tightly around it.
- You can then paint the finished candle with candle pens; the paint takes about 8 hours to dry. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
How to decorate a candle
With KREUL candle paint you paint straight from the pen’s fine tip, and you can layer the colors; it dries in about 8 hours. KREUL candle varnish seals a photo transferred with the Foto Transfer Potch technique. Only burn painted candles under supervision.
Frequently asked questions
What wick do I need for candles?
Beeswax sheets come with a wick in the pack. For candles poured into containers or molds, there are Pebeo Gédéo wicks with a metal base that holds the wick upright at the bottom: the 8 cm length is enough for candles about 6–7 cm tall and suits standard waxes.
How do you color candle wax?
Grate Pebeo Gédéo pigment sticks into the melted wax with a knife, or let them melt straight in. The shades can be mixed, and the intensity depends on how much pigment you use.
How do you decorate soap with dried flowers?
Sprinkle dried flowers or fruit onto the soap base right after pouring it into the mold – it creates a striking natural surface.
How do you wrap homemade soap as a gift?
In a gift box with a clear window that shows off the soap’s color and texture; it comes in sizes from 6.5 × 6.5 × 3 cm to 8.5 × 8.5 × 3.5 cm.
