Frequently Asked Questions
What is special decoupage glue used for, and what is the difference between matte and gloss?
PENTART decoupage glue is used to attach a napkin or paper to a decorated surface. Matte glue creates a natural look without shine, which works well with a vintage style. Gloss glue brings out the colors in the motif and gives the object a radiant finish. Both types create a durable, transparent layer once dry.
Which brushes are best for applying glue with the decoupage technique?
For decoupage, we recommend using flat synthetic brushes from Royal & Langnickel. The synthetic bristles are gentle enough not to damage a thin napkin, yet firm enough to spread the glue evenly. Avoid natural-bristle brushes, which can shed hairs and leave streaks that would be distracting when working on details on a decorated object.
How can I get a smooth surface without bubbles when gluing a napkin?
The key is to apply a thin layer of PENTART glue to the surface and place the napkin from the center outward toward the edges. Use a soft ARTMiE® brush to gently smooth out any bubbles. If the napkin wrinkles, work carefully and apply a little glue over the napkin as well to secure and smooth it.
Do I need a finishing varnish for decoupage if I've already used glue?
Although PENTART decoupage glue creates a protective layer, a finishing varnish is essential for long-lasting durability. Varnish protects the decorated object from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. We recommend choosing a varnish based on the desired final effect, such as matte or gloss, to keep your work beautiful and protected for many years.
Can decoupage supplies also be used for other techniques?
Yes, PENTART glues and varnishes are very versatile. You can use them for image transfer, gluing decorative papers, or making collages. Royal & Langnickel brushes are also great for acrylic painting or applying texture pastes. With our ARTMiE® supplies, you get versatile equipment for a wide range of creative projects.
