Royal & Langnickel Set of 4 Round Synthetic Brushes
A round brush has a pointed tip. Use it to paint details, lines, leaves, hair, and entire watercolor paintings. For acrylics, choose a synthetic brush, such as da Vinci FORTE-ACRYLICS or ROSA STREAM. For watercolor, choose a natural-hair brush that holds water, and for thin lines, a fineliner.
Round Brushes for Details, Acrylics, and Watercolor
The round brush is the most versatile shape: use light pressure to make a thin line and more pressure for a wider stroke. We have over a hundred round brushes and sets in stock from brands including Rosa, da Vinci, Royal & Langnickel, and others, including synthetic brushes, natural-hair brushes, and fineliners.
Which Round Brush to Choose
- For acrylics – synthetic brushes that stand up to thick paint and frequent washing: da Vinci FORTE-ACRYLICS 8630, ROSA STREAM 132, or the inexpensive ROSA TERRA 1608R.
- For watercolor – natural hair that absorbs plenty of water and holds its point, such as ROSA OASIS 188.
- For thin lines – the long, thin ROSA STREAM 123 fineliner for branches, hair, and lettering.
- For school – the durable, inexpensive da Vinci FIT 373.
If you want several sizes at once, browse our brush sets, such as the 12-piece Royal & Langnickel set.
Frequently Asked Questions About Round Brushes
What sizes of round brushes do I need?
To start, you need a small brush (0–2) for details, a medium brush (4–6) for everyday painting, and a larger brush (8–12) for areas in watercolor paintings. Sizes vary between brands.
What is the difference between a round brush and a fineliner?
A fineliner has longer, thinner bristles, holds more paint, and draws a long, even line. A round brush is shorter and more versatile.
Why does a brush tip fray?
This most often happens because paint dries near the brush ferrule or because the brush is left standing in water. Wash brushes as soon as you finish painting and leave them to dry flat.
