It all started in 2007 in eastern Slovakia.
Today, we’re present in 16 countries and have more than 70 online stores.
It all started in 2007, when the carefully gathered ideas of founders Valerian and Danka, their young team, and the skillful work of graphic designers gave rise to another family-run online store within the MY HOME company. This is how the story began in eastern Slovakia, right in the heart of Europe, with just a few talented helpers involved at first. We could have counted them on one hand. They were all connected by their love of art and crafting, and it wasn’t long before the world around them took notice.
Gradually, the team grew. More crafting enthusiasts joined us, along with valuable experience, great ideas, and the most interesting products. Before long, we moved to new premises and watched our warehouses grow like mushrooms after the rain. A few years later, maliarskeplatno.sk had expanded into neighboring countries, changed its logo, and found more and more joy in beautiful creative things, which we love to talk about with makers of all kinds #zláskykumeniu.
Handmade Canvas
Shortly afterward, we realized that not all canvas is the same, and not every manufacturer offers the quality we want for our customers. So we committed ourselves to making our own professional canvas on a sturdy wooden frame. It’s custom-made for us at a family-run workshop in Italy, and we can proudly call it the highest-quality canvas on the market.
In the years that followed, we grew, entered new markets, and brought in a whole lot of new products for us to try and test. We created the CreativLab creative studio, where we experiment every day with paints, brushes, and all kinds of creative supplies. Want to learn more about our creative tests? We celebrated a milestone birthday by realizing that we have more than 20 000 products in stock from around 40 international art-supply brands. We carefully select more new products for you every day, and when our warehouses started to feel too small, we added more.

Today, nearly 15 years later, we bring creativity to 16 countries, and our ARTMiE family has more than 70 online stores. We’re also a market leader in many of these countries, especially Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and the Balkans.

That’s why the maliarskeplatno.sk online store is becoming ARTMIE.sk, a name created by combining the words ART and AMIE (from the French l´amie = friend). We were inspired by the beautiful sound of French, which, in our opinion, expresses love (not only) for art more sweetly than any other language in the world. Do you agree?

Couple Builds an E-Commerce Store for Artists in Snina. They Want to Expand It from 12 Countries to All of Europe
This business story is full of color and unfolds across more than a dozen European countries, including Slovakia. But it began thousands of kilometers away, in Siberia. Its protagonist, Valerian Grass, was born in Omsk to a family from the German national minority living in Russia. Today he lives in Slovakia and, with his wife, is building a successful online art-supplies store, Artmie, in Snina. It operates in 12 European countries.
Valerian Grass’s interesting life journey began in Omsk, where he lived with his family for the first six years of his life. They later moved to Kazakhstan for a short time, and in 1990 the whole family relocated to Germany. An invitation from a friend brought him to Snina a few years after he finished high school. He liked Slovakia and met his wife Dana there. Together, they gradually began building a company that has been supplying thousands of customers with art supplies for 16 years.
They currently employ about 70 people and operate online stores in 12 European countries, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia. Last year, they reported revenue of 7.1 million euros and a profit of almost half a million euros.
