Liquitex Acrylic Medium gives acrylic paints a matte appearance. Matte medium reduces the gloss of acrylic paints while increasing their depth and transparency. It helps prevent damage to the painting from cracking, the formation of small air bubbles, or changes in the paint shade. Only the consistency and fluidity of the acrylic paint change. The medium improves flow and blending. Acrylic paints mixed with this medium are durable and adhere better to the painted surface. Acrylic medium can be mixed with any other acrylic mediums. You can also use it as glue for collage, as a fixative, or as a reinforcing layer on canvas under acrylic paints.
How to use it?
We do not recommend shaking the bottle vigorously before use, as the medium may look cloudy when dry. Simply pour the matte medium into a cup with your prepared acrylic paint, mix with a plastic palette knife, and start applying the paint to canvas or another material. Stir gently to avoid creating foam or bubbles. If bubbles appear, let the paint settle, and the bubbles will then disappear. Add as much medium to the acrylic paints as you like to achieve the desired consistency and transparency. The more medium you add, the smoother and more transparent the acrylic paint will become. You can dilute the medium with water by up to 25%. For better results, we recommend using distilled water. The medium is semi-opaque when liquid and transparent when completely dry.
OUR TIP
If you mix matte medium with any gloss medium for acrylic paints, you will create a semi-gloss to satin medium. This medium gives acrylic paints a satin appearance. If you use it as a fixative, we recommend mixing the medium with distilled water in a 1:1 ratio when fixing pastels, graphite, or chalk. Then apply it with a brush or sponge, as you would apply glue.
