Maimeri Poppy Oil 75 ml
Maimeri Poppy Oil (No. 656) is an exceptionally pure, refined extract from poppy seeds (Papaver somniferum), intended for oil painting. This semi-drying oil is highly lightfast and has minimal tendency to yellow, while giving paint a smoother, creamier consistency and a softer brushstroke. It is an ideal choice, especially when working with white, blue, and light shades, as well as for the wet-on-wet painting technique.

Use and application
Add the oil gradually and in small amounts. It dries more slowly than linseed oil, extending the time you can work with the paint, but it is not suitable for the lower layers of a painting if you plan to apply faster-drying layers over them (follow the “fat over lean” rule). Close the bottle tightly after use.
Frequently asked questions
Why use poppy oil instead of linseed oil? Poppy oil does not yellow, which helps preserve the purity of white, blue, and light tones. Its slower drying time also gives you longer to work with the paint.
Can I use poppy oil for underpainting? It is not suitable for the lower layers of a painting if you plan to apply layers with faster-drying oil over them, as this would break the “fat over lean” principle.
