This is a review of the entire Schmincke Horadam watercolor paint line. I’m slowly building my collection because these paints can go smoothly from a delicate glaze to a bold, vivid color in a single brushstroke. I know the characteristics of different watercolor brands well, and I can confidently say Schmincke Horadam is a brand that meets all my needs in one line.
I watched an interview with Gris and took a screenshot of his palette. Four vivid colors caught my eye: lemon yellow, warm red, blue, and green. Based on Schmincke’s charts, I think May green is the right one! This color lifts well and is great for glazing. It re-wets easily and mixes well with other yellows. Schmincke Ultramarine Violet works well as its complementary color.
I ordered the cobalt blue shade, and it’s really beautiful. It shines on the paper.
I definitely recommend it to beginners. Schmincke is a brand that doesn’t disappoint.
