Add a metallic touch to your paintings with this binder for metallic oil pigments by Schmincke. Shortly before use, mix the oil pigments with the medium in a 3:2 ratio and stir well. The product is ready to use. Add brilliant metallic effects to your paintings. It can also be used on wood, metal, or plaster. The gilding remains soluble in turpentine after drying. When using it on absorbent surfaces, we recommend additional pretreatment with bronze medium diluted with turpentine substitute. Once completely dry, the oil painting can be carefully varnished with universal varnish. Clean tools such as brushes or palettes as soon as possible after use.

I really appreciate the quality and sturdiness of Schmincke’s metal palettes. The hinges on the box lid, which has 4 spacious mixing wells, and on the folding palette are strong and resist bending or breaking, even with frequent use. The pans fit easily into their slots and stay in place, but can also be easily swapped for other colors. The set also includes a fold-out sheet for sampling selected colors, a very nice touch. The lid closes tightly.
I ordered this box to hold 5 ml tubes, and I’m very happy with it. Sometimes you need to turn the tubes around a little so the caps don’t stick out and press against the mixing surface, making it harder to close, but the box still closes securely. It’s a high-quality, sturdy box with white enamel mixing surfaces. You can also slip an elastic band around the box and tuck in a brush.
As you’d expect from Schmincke, the box is excellent quality and made to last for years. I use it as an extension of my larger watercolor box for a few extra colors, such as some from their new granulating range. I’d also take it on vacation with a selection of colors. I also like the thumb loop on the back, which lets me hold the palette in my hand. A nice product.
I just filled this palette with my favorite colors, and I love it. The lid closes perfectly and tightly, which is very satisfying. An excellent Schmincke watercolor palette with plenty of room to mix colors.
