Schmincke artist-grade liquid charcoal in a 35 ml tube offers a clean, dust-free way to paint and draw with charcoal. Three shades of black make it easy to move from drawing to painting. The three natural pigments are made by charring fruit seeds from the EU, creating these unique charcoal shades: neutral peach stone black, warm, brownish cherry black, and cool, bluish grape-seed black. The larger amount of available paint makes liquid charcoal suitable for quickly covering large areas. It contains a high-quality binder, natural gum, like traditional watercolors for artists. It has a gouache-like consistency and can be diluted with water, so different application methods can produce different shades, textures, and layer thicknesses. Depending on the surface and layer thickness, it can be rubbed off by hand and removed with water. When used as a thin underpainting (for example, in oil painting), subsequent paints will not become dirty, or will become less dirty than with a conventional charcoal underpainting, thanks to the greater adhesion of the bound charcoal pigments to the surface. Liquid charcoal can of course be combined with traditional charcoal. Since the pigments are natural products, slight color variations may occur between batches. The finished product is a beautiful artist's paint, unlike anything we have tried before.
