Two-step crackle varnish is water-based and suitable for creating a cracked surface that feels very smooth and leathery to the touch. Apply a coat of the first component with a brush to a previously decorated object. Once the first phase has dried completely, apply the second phase with a brush. As the second-phase varnish layer dries, it will crack. You can highlight the cracks by rubbing coloring material into the surface. The pattern of the resulting cracks depends on the direction of the brush strokes and the thickness of the first and second components. Once completely dry, your artwork will have a clear matte finish and be water-resistant.
