ROSA TALENT STYLE Acrylic Paint Set for Fabric
Fabric paints are heat-set by ironing after drying and then withstand washing, up to 40 or 60 °C depending on the brand. MAMBO Kompozit, ARTMiE Cacadu, or Pentart textile and leather acrylic paints are suitable for light and dark fabrics, as well as leather. Spray paint is practical for large areas and stencils, fabric markers for details, and washing machine dye for coloring an entire garment.
Which fabric paints should you choose?
Find instructions from preparing the fabric to setting the paint in our guide Painting on Fabric Step by Step.
Fabric Paints – Turn Everyday Clothes Into One-of-a-Kind Pieces
Want to create your own T-shirt with an original motif? Or decorate a kid’s backpack, bag, or pillow? Fabric paints make it easy to get lasting results. At ARTMiE, you’ll find fabric and leather paints from MAMBO Kompozit and ARTMIE Cacadu, as well as paints from Pentart, KREUL Javana, Pebeo Setacolor, and ROSA. They’re water-based and washable after setting.
What Types of Fabric Paint Are Available?
- Paints for Light Fabrics – transparent, allowing the fabric color to show through
- Paints for Dark Fabrics – opaque, with white and metallic shades that show up even on a black T-shirt
- Spray Fabric Paints – for large areas and effects
- Fabric Pens and Outliners – for fine details and outlines
- Wash-Resistant Fabric Paint – withstands repeated washing after being heat-set with an iron
How to Paint on Fabric Step by Step
Painting on fabric is easier than you think:
- Place cardboard between the layers of fabric so the paint doesn’t bleed through to the other side
- Draw the motif with a pencil or fabric outliner
- Paint with a brush, sponge, or directly from the tube
- Let it dry for 24 hours
- Heat-set it by ironing from the back or through parchment paper. Check the paint packaging for the temperature and time (for example, Pebeo Setacolor for 5 minutes on the cotton setting)
Once heat-set, the motif can withstand washing inside out. Most paints can be washed at up to 40 °C, and some (such as KREUL Javana) at up to 60 °C.
Who Are Fabric Paints Ideal For?
Fabric paints are great for:
- Creative Kids and Families – birthday T-shirts and school events
- DIY Enthusiasts – original gifts and upcycling old clothes
- Artists and Designers – original fashion and hand-painted pieces
- Schools and Camps – group activities with quick results
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Fabric Paint Withstand Machine Washing?
Yes. After being properly heat-set with an iron, the paint can withstand repeated washing at temperatures up to 40 °C. We recommend washing items inside out and avoiding bleach.
What Materials Can Fabric Paints Be Used On?
They work best on cotton, linen, and cotton blends. MAMBO Kompozit, ARTMIE Cacadu, and ROSA acrylic paints are suitable for natural and synthetic fabrics. Liquid paints for light fabrics (such as KREUL Javana) require fabric with no more than 20 % synthetic fibers.
Are Fabric Paints Safe for Kids?
Fabric paints are water-based. For the youngest kids, there are MUCKI finger paints (for ages 2 and up) and KREUL fabric pens for kids. MAMBO Kompozit paints meet toy safety standards. Have an adult do the ironing when heat-setting the paint.
Which Fabric Paint Is Wash-Resistant?
Any fabric paint becomes wash-resistant only after it has been heat-set. Once dry, iron it according to the instructions on the packaging. It can then withstand washing inside out, usually at up to 40 °C. Before heat-setting, the paint can still be washed out.
What Paint Should I Use on a Dark T-Shirt?
For a dark T-shirt, you need opaque paint, such as Pentart 50 ml, which covers in one coat, or Pebeo Setacolor Opaque. Liquid paints for light fabrics won’t show up on dark fabric.
Can Fabric Paint Also Be Used on Leather?
Yes, if it’s a paint for fabric and leather, such as MAMBO Kompozit, ARTMIE Cacadu, or Pentart fabric and leather paint. Pebeo Setacolor leather paint is also made for leather shoes, jackets, and bags. Clean the leather before painting.
What’s the Difference Between Fabric Paints and Regular Acrylic Paints?
Fabric paints contain special softeners that keep the design flexible and prevent it from cracking. Regular acrylic paints harden and crack once dry on fabric.
