You don’t need a ceramic kiln to paint mugs and plates: porcelain paints are baked in a regular oven (KREUL at 160 °C for 90 minutes, Pebeo Porcelaine 150 at 150 °C for 35 minutes) or air-dried. According to the manufacturers, painted surfaces must not come into contact with food or drinks.

How to Do It Step by Step
- Wash the mug and degrease it with rubbing alcohol.
- Sketch the motif with a pencil or marker; paint on the outside and away from the rim that touches your lips.

- Wipe away mistakes with water before firing.
- Let the paint dry and fire it in a cold oven according to the instructions; let it cool in the oven.

Can you drink from a painted mug?
No. All manufacturers of glass and porcelain paints we sell state that painted surfaces must not come into direct contact with food or drinks. So paint on the outside of the glass or mug and away from the rim that touches your lips. After oven firing, the decoration can be washed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. KREUL can be washed in a dishwasher on a gentle cycle at 40 to 45 °C.
How long should porcelain be fired in the oven?
KREUL: 90 minutes at 160 °C after 4 hours of drying; Pebeo Porcelaine 150: 35 minutes at 150 °C after 24 hours of drying. Always place it in a cold oven.
Can you paint ceramic without baking it?
Yes, with Darwi Armerina markers or Pebeo Ceramic paint. Armerina is dishwasher-safe 48 hours after drying; Pebeo Ceramic is suitable for decorations and gentle washing.
What kind of ceramic can you paint?
Finished glazed ceramic and porcelain that can withstand the firing temperature. For your own creations made from modeling clay, use acrylic paints; you can also find them in the modeling category.
