ECO Black Stretched Canvas
Choosing the right canvas depends on your technique. Cotton canvas is enough for everyday painting, while linen canvas is valued for its texture when working with oil paints. For sketching, choose a canvas board; for serious work, choose a stretched canvas. We make our own ARTMiE canvases with care, and we’re happy to prepare custom sizes to match your artistic vision.

Why Are Canvases Essential for Every Artist?
Painting just isn't the same without a quality canvas. Whether you're a professional artist or a beginner, the canvas is the foundation of your work. At our ARTMiE online store, we offer hundreds of sizes, types, and shapes of canvas, from classic options to original ovals and rolls.
Which Canvas Should You Choose?
Your choice depends on the technique you use. For most artists, stretched canvases are ideal because they’re ready to use right away. They’re excellent for acrylic, oil, and mixed-media techniques.
If you want to save money and create your own format, we recommend canvas by the meter, also known as canvas by the roll. We also offer ECO stretched canvases, which offer great value for the price.
What Is Gesso and Why Is It Important?
Gesso priming means applying a base coat to the canvas. We offer double-primed canvases that are ready to use right away. If you want to prepare the canvas yourself, take a look at our selection of gesso and primers.
Canvas Boards, Oval and Round Canvases: What Makes Them Special?
If you’re looking for something practical, lightweight, and affordable, canvas board is a great choice. It has a firm surface but is thin and easy to carry. Ideal for travel or school.
Also worth exploring are oval canvases and round canvases on board, which stand out in decorative paintings and creative projects. They allow for original compositions that catch the eye.
Canvas Rolls: When You Need Your Own Format
Popular with advanced artists, gesso-primed canvas rolls can be cut and stretched as needed. Choose from various widths and lengths, in white or black canvas for dramatic contrast.
We also recommend eco canvas rolls, which are more environmentally friendly yet just as good in quality. Ideal for those who like to prepare everything themselves, from stretching to the final gesso priming.
What Other Specialty Canvases Do We Offer?
For customers with higher expectations, we also offer MUSEAL linen canvases, which are more durable and especially suitable for oil painting. Our selection also includes premium 3D stretched canvases and the Nature range.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Choose Between Linen and Cotton Canvas?
Cotton canvas is affordable and ideal for beginners and students. Linen canvas is stronger, more resistant to moisture, and has a more natural texture that professional artists especially appreciate for oil painting. If you want your artwork to last a long time, linen is clearly the better choice for demanding art projects, thanks to its structure and durable fibers.
What’s the Difference Between Canvas for Acrylic and Oil Paints?
Gesso priming is key. Our ARTMiE® and Phoenix canvases have universal acrylic gesso that works with both types of paint. For oil painting, however, we recommend canvases with multiple layers of gesso so the oil doesn’t soak into the fibers and cause the canvas to rot. Standard weight is enough for acrylic, but for oil, choose canvas with a higher thread density.
What Should You Look for When Choosing a Large-Format Canvas?
For large sizes, the quality of the stretcher frame is critical. We use sturdy spruce stretcher bars that do not warp across large surfaces. For sizes over 100 cm, we recommend using center braces, known as cross braces, to ensure frame stability. Our ARTMiE® range includes specially reinforced profiles that keep the canvas perfectly taut, even in monumental formats.
Why choose a professional canvas made in our own workshop?
We handcraft our ARTMiE® canvases in Slovakia, with attention to detail. We use high-quality, gesso-primed canvas with a high weight (g/m²) and precisely finished wooden frames. Unlike inexpensive imports, we check every stage of production. This gives you a product that does not warp, has ideal tension, and has a surface finish ready for painting right away.
Can I order a custom-sized canvas?
Yes, we can make a canvas to your exact specifications in our ARTMiE® workshop. Just provide the dimensions you need, and we will make the stretcher frame and stretch high-quality canvas over it. This service is ideal if you need a nonstandard format for a particular space or a specific artistic vision that regular stock cannot accommodate.
